Issues

Over the next 12 months, there will be a lot of talk about where my opponents and I stand on issues. But I want to start by telling you what I stand for so that you’ll know more about how I’ll make decisions on behalf of the good people of the District.

I believe that leadership starts with the willingness to listen, it's a lesson that was proven to me time and again during my time in the Army. People are our greatest asset – but we must be willing to listen as we make decisions about the way forward. The basic guiding principles of duty, accountability, and responsibility will inform each decision and stance I make.

Duty

Our country was founded by men and women who believed in and fought for, causes much bigger than themselves. Their service and the tireless bravery of our citizens built, protected, and sustained our nation over hundreds of years. I believe this fundamental sense of duty to our community must be renewed.

Responsibility

Members of the U.S. Congress have a sacred and primary responsibility to our Constitution, and to serve the people who send them to Washington DC. Fundamental to our Constitution is the idea that each one of us has an equal voice in Congress. I believe that too many in Washington have forgotten for whom they work.

Accountability

Every day, the great citizens of my home work hard and are held accountable to their families, their jobs, their faith and to their communities. I believe that we should expect the same from our elected representatives. Just as I was held accountable for my actions in the military, I will hold myself accountable to the people I serve in the district.
