Responsibility
Spend only what we have to spend
For years, Congress has been spending money we don’t have. In the last dozen years -- under both Republican and Democratic leadership -- our debt has doubled, then doubled again. Since Jo Ann Emerson first took office in 1996, the national debt has grown over $20,000 for each and every citizen in our district. As a member of Congress, I will support common-sense spending not funding gimmicks designed to hide true costs or out-of-control spending.
Work to secure a strong future for rural America
Even before the financial crisis, it seems like Washington has focused less and less on the needs of people in rural America, and instead on how to help large corporations and special interests protect their profits. As a member of Congress, I will focus on specific ways to create economic opportunity and jobs back home through investments in our rural infrastructure. This includes both physical infrastructure building, like roads, bridges, broadband and cellular technologies as well as investments in our people through education and healthcare.
