Dexter Daily Statesman: Sowers puts his “Boots on the Ground” in Dexter

On another leg on his race for the 8th Congressional Senate seat, Tommy Sowers was in Dexter Friday afternoon continuing his "Boots on the Ground" campaign begun in January.

Sowers has ocne again been traveling around the 28 counties of the state's Eighth District, spending a day and a night in each. Along the way, he has conducted what he is referring to as "workdays," as he labors alongside local residents, performing their everyday work tasks. He has played roles from teachers to bartenders to a deep-fry cook along his journey.

During his visit Friday aftrernoon, Sowers took on the role of mechanic as worked alongside Charlie Long, owner of Advantage Automotive just off of Highway 25.

Said Sowers Campaign Manager Jonathan Feifs, "Boots on the Ground wasn't just a one-time event for Tommy, it's a guiding principle of his entire campaign. He's going to be out on the road in the as much as possible between now and Election Day."

Sowers, an 11-year Army Special Forces veteran, is running for Congress against incumbent Jo Ann Emerson. Sowers is the Democratic candidate for Missouri's 8th Congressional district and does not face opposition in the primary. Emerson will face a Republican primary challenger, cattle rancher Bob Parker, in August.

Sowers will be in Scott County Sunday, New Madrid County on Monday, Pemiscot County on Tuesday and Dunklin County on Wednesday.
