On Wednesday, October 13th, Tommy Sowers joined his opponents in Poplar Bluff for the second of four Congressional debates. Sowers advocated for new blood and offered a plan to voters, saying:
“I was down in Senath, talking to farmers at a breakfast, and I asked a former Congresswoman Emerson supporter for his vote. He said ‘You’ve already got it, because we farmers know it’s time to rotate the crops.’ We can’t keep sending the same person back there and expect a different result. We need new blood and new ideas for the future… I will stop these bailouts. I will renegotiate the trade deals. I will fight so our communities are healthy and our kids can live here. And I will fight for you.”
Sowers for Congress Campaign Manager Jonathan Feifs commented on Emerson’s debate performance:
“Congresswoman Emerson was too busy talking about Nancy Pelosi to answer for her job-killing record or offer voters any solutions tonight. She offered no plan on the Afghanistan War. She complained about the EPA but offered no plan for increasing domestic energy production. She offered no plan for bringing jobs back. I’ll sum it up this way: instead of talking about Nancy Pelosi, we should really be talking about ‘No Plan Jo Ann.’"
Congresswoman Emerson closed the debate by attacking Tommy Sowers, saying, “He didn’t defend Poplar Bluff.”
Tommy Sowers responded to Emerson’s attack in the following statement:
“Was Congresswoman Emerson defending us when she voted to destroy our manufacturing base and ship our jobs overseas? Was Congresswoman Emerson defending us when she voted to send $700 billion to Wall Street, rewarding the same folks who crippled our economy? Was Congresswoman Emerson defending us with her poor legislative record of writing and passing just four bills, including naming a post office and a courthouse? The answer is no, but she won’t tell you that. She’d rather smear me.”
Tommy Sowers, a native of Rolla and an 11-year Army Special Forces veteran who served two tours in Iraq, is running for Congress against incumbent Jo Ann Emerson, a former insurance lobbyist and native of the Washington, DC beltway. Tommy Sowers is running for Congress in Missouri’s 8th district.
