Missouri’s Eighth District Congressional Candidate Tommy Sowers released the following statement:
“Yesterday, incumbent Jo Ann Emerson defeated Bob Parker in the Republican Primary. I congratulate Emerson for her primary victory, but I’ll say this: more people voted against Jo Ann Emerson than voted for her last night, and that will be repeated on November 2nd.
We have built an organization in every county of the district to win on Election Day. Every day, our organization has countless conversations with voters who are disgusted with the job Emerson has done and are ready to fire her. All the people that voted against Emerson last night reflect that disgust.
Emerson will try to make this election about what people in Washington, DC are doing, despite the fact that Emerson lived in DC before she was elected and has been a part of it for the last 14 years. As I travel around the district, people are focused on ways to bring jobs to southeast Missouri and not the same old Washington games that Emerson is playing. They know that we need new blood in Washington if anything is going to change.
We will make this election about the facts. Emerson voted to bail out Wall Street and for the bad trade deals that have sent our jobs overseas. She has been an ally for the banks and for big business, but where has she been for us? Since she took office this district has gotten poorer and poorer. I was born and raised in Rolla. I know that this district needs someone to fight for it. Just like I fought for our country overseas, I’ll fight for us every day in Washington.
I’ll be out working hard for every single vote from now until Election Day. I look forward to an exciting few months and a debate about our district’s future.”
Sowers, an 11-year Army Special Forces veteran, is running for Congress against incumbent Jo Ann Emerson, a former insurance lobbyist from Washington, DC. Tommy Sowers is the Democratic candidate for Missouri’s 8th Congressional district.
