PRESS RELEASE: Tommy Sowers Puts Boots on the Ground for the 100 Mile Yard Sale
May 26, 2010This year, Eighth District Congressional Candidate Tommy Sowers willroad march the entire length of the 12th Annual “100 Mile Yard Sale” onfoot. Missouri’s Eighth District celebrates Memorial Day weekend byholding the “100 Mile Yard Sale” along Missouri State Highway 25, fromJackson to Kennett. The 4-day event begins on Thursday, May 27 andstretches for nearly 100 miles, passing through over a dozen towns.
Tommy will be marching with voters, listening to their concerns,holding events, and conducting media interviews. This walk is roughlythe length of entire state of Delaware, or the distance from New YorkCity to Philadelphia. He will start at the Brookside Veteran’s MemorialWall in Jackson at 7 am Thursday morning and cover roughly 25 miles aday until finishing Sunday evening at the Veteran’s Monument near theDunklin County courthouse in Kennett.
“After serving in the Special Forces in Iraq, I am looking forwardto getting back on a road march,” said Sowers, who served two tours ofduty in the country. “Just as I did during our Boots on the Groundoperation, I expect I’ll continue to hear the demand for new blood inDC.”

Sowers continued, “Memorial Day holds a special significance foreveryone connected with the military. I am marching the 100 Mile YardSale in honor of our veterans. I’m also looking forward to marchingwith anyone who wants to talk about what they expect from theirrepresentative in Congress. Just call my campaign and we’ll come meetyou.”
Sowers, an 11-year Army Special Forces veteran, is running forCongress against incumbent Jo Ann Emerson, a former insurance lobbyistfrom Washington, DC. Tommy Sowers is the Democratic candidate forMissouri’s 8th Congressional district and does not face opposition inthe primary. During the first quarter of 2010, Sowers outraisedEmerson by over $70,000, with 99% of his contributions coming fromindividuals. Emerson will face a Republican primary challenger, cattlerancher Bob Parker, in August.
